Blank Firing Adapter (BFA), Red, for M240-Series Machine Gun
For training exercises, the M240-Series Machine Gun requires a Blank Firing Adapter (BFA), essentially a steel plug which screws into the muzzle and partially blocks it.
Gas-operated weapons rely on the projectile to trap gas pressure in the system as it leaves the barrel; without this, there will be insufficient pressure to cycle the weapon. In addition to the requirement to cycle the weapon, BFA's are needed for safety reasons. It is extremely dangerous to fire blank ammunition using a weapon that does not have a BFA attached to it, due to the risk of burns and injuries from debris leaving the weapon's barrel at high velocity.
This Blank Firing Adapter (BFA), suitable for the new USN MK48 Lightweight GPMG, in addition to the M240B and MAG-58 GPMGs, is machined from 8620 steel and features a hardened 416 stainless steel shaft for long service life. The body of the BFA is supplied in a durable powder coat finish. The robust dimensions, manner of construction and use of high-grade materials offer a quantum improvement over the current issue item. Also, a grenade ring is attached to the center shaft to prevent loss in the field.
